The Edo State Police Command has apprehended 95 suspected cultists during a week-long operation aimed at intensifying the crackdown on cult-related activities in the state. CSP Moses Yamu, the state’s police spokesman, announced the arrests in a post on X on Friday, revealing that 64 of the suspects have already been charged in court and remanded in custody.
“For the past week, @EdoPoliceNG arrested 95 suspected cultists. Today, 64 of them were charged to court and remanded, while investigations are ongoing,” Yamu stated. He also noted that firearms and ammunition were seized during the raids, including one single-barrel shotgun, two locally made pistols, and 24 cartridges.
The arrests were made during coordinated raids on known cultist hideouts throughout the state. Yamu emphasized that the operation is ongoing and will continue to target criminal elements. “Raids of their enclaves continue,” he said, underscoring the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs that threaten public safety.
This initiative comes in response to rising concerns over cult-related violence in the state, prompting security agencies to enhance their efforts through intelligence-led operations.
