Osun Amotekun buries operative killed in ambush by armed gang

The Amotekun in Osun State has laid to rest one of its operatives, Lamidi Abiodun, in his hometown of Kuta.

Lamidi Abiodun, DAILY POST had earlier reported, died during a deadly ambush in the Papa area of Iwo, Osun State on Wednesday.

The Osun Amotekun spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, in a statement revealed that Abiodun died “while responding to a distress call from farmers in the Papa Farm area, where an armed group was reportedly attacking farmlands and threateningly lives”.

“The Amotekun operatives, working in coordination with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, mobilised to the location to neutralise the threat and ensure the safety of the residents.

“On arriving at the scene, the team was ambushed by suspected gunmen allegedly loyal to a known gang leader, Akeem Olofa. While surviving initial gunfire, Officer Abiodun was fatally attacked with a machete to the head and died on the spot.”

In another statement in Saturday, the Osun Amotekun spokesperson disclosed that the funeral ceremony in Kuta was attended by grieving family members, local residents and top officials from the Osun Amotekun Corps who came to honour Abiodun’s service and sacrifice.

“A proud son of Kuta, Officer Abiodun was more than a security agent he was a patriot who embodied commitment, bravery, and a deep sense of duty to his people. His ultimate sacrifice stands as a testament to the risks borne by those who serve on the front lines of community defense.

“The leadership of the Osun Amotekun Corps was present at the funeral to pay their final respects and honor the memory of a fallen her.”

Abass added that the Osun Amotekun Corps has vowed to continue its work with greater vigilance while calling on the authorities to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the ambush.
