Military nabs security personnel colluding with terrorists

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the arrest of four security personnel involved in aiding terrorist activities in the North-East. Among the suspects are two individuals from the hybrid forces who had been collaborating with troops to combat the insurgency.

Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that these arrests occurred during operations conducted between April 26 and April 29 across the local government areas (LGAs) of Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali. He reported that the suspects were part of a group of four logistics suppliers for terrorists apprehended by the military.

Expressing concern over this betrayal, Kangye urged commanders to educate their personnel about actions that could undermine ongoing military efforts. “In a well-coordinated operation from April 26 to 29, 2025, in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali LGAs in Borno and Adamawa States, troops intercepted four terrorist logistics suppliers, two of whom were confirmed to be members of the hybrid forces,” he said. He further urged commanders to ensure that hybrid forces personnel refrain from collaborating with or facilitating terrorist acts that can jeopardize military operations.

In a separate operation, Kangye reported that troops, alongside hybrid forces, engaged in offensive maneuvers such as fighting patrols, raids, and clearance missions across Gwoza, Dikwa, Bama, Chibok, Gujba, Geidam, and Yunusari LGAs. These operations resulted in the deaths of several terrorists, the rescue of six kidnapped victims, and the recovery of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and bicycles.

In the South-South region, Kangye noted that troops had also made significant progress in fighting oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta. They successfully recovered over 86,000 liters of stolen crude oil, 72,000 liters of illegally refined diesel, and more than 2,600 liters of petrol. Additionally, troops destroyed numerous illegal refining sites and confiscated boats, storage tanks, tricycles, mobile phones, and seven vehicles.
