Hundreds of members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Our correspondent gathered that the PDP members joined APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former PDP members who came from Egbeda and Ona Ara local government areas announced their defection at an APC meeting held at Elekuro High School, Olorunsogo Ibadan.
Our correspondent reports that the event, which was held on Saturday, was attended by an APC aspirant for Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency, Kazeem Akinola, Yinka Folarin, Shina Adeagbo, Bola Fawole and Alhaji Agbedo.
Akinola welcomed the defectors to APC on behalf of other members of the party.
According to him, it is the time of Ona Ara to produce the member representing the federal constituency.
He said, “I am excited to be with you today, you know where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going. On this project, I am happy with the turnout of the meeting. You know me as a party man over the years.
“You rally round me over the years, I appreciate it and I don’t take it for granted. It’s time for Ona-Ara LGA to produce the House of Representatives, Egbeda LGA has done it for 8 years uninterruptedly.”
APC Chairman in Ona Ara LGA, Alhaji Prince Abdulwasiu Kolawole Ogundipe, appreciated God for keeping all party members safe and secure.
He described APC as a progressive party that prioritizes peace.
Ogundipe appealed to all party members to spread love and unity among themselves.
He reiterated that the party at the state level has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
A former Chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government, Biliaminu Ogundele, called for calm.
Ogundele stressed that no internal faction can single-handedly win the election without the support of others.
