Nigerian Govt vows to end Plateau killings

Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, on Saturday assured residents of Plateau State that security agencies will bring the senseless killings that has bedeviled some communities in the state to an end.

News360 Info recalls that over 100 people were killed and properties destroyed in some communities of Bokkos and Bassa LGAs in the past three weeks.

Badaru gave the assurance when he visited communities that were recently attacked by gunmen in Bassa.

The minister, who sympathized with the families of those who lost their loved ones, expressed government’s commitment to secure them and their property.

“We are here on behalf of the Federal Government to identify and share in your grief.

“We want to assure you that security operatives will bring these senseless killings to an end.

“I have been adequately briefed and I want to assure you that we will get to the root of this matter. We will apprehend those who committed this evil act.

“President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned and have ordered us to find those who committed this act so they can face justice.

“We are working in collaboration the Plateau state government to adopt the structure that will prevent this ugly incident from happening again,” he said.

Badaru further said that government would engage all stakeholders in the affected communities towards curbing the cycle of killings in the state.

In his remarks, the paramount ruler of Irigwe chiefdom, Brra Ngwe Ronku Aku, thanked the minister for the visit.

The monarch, who lamented the incessant attacks and destruction of properties in the area, appealed to government and security operatives to intensity efforts to end the cycle of violence.

“We are ready to collaborate with the government towards bringing lasting peace to our chiefdom and the state in general,” he said.

Aku also appealed to government to provide succour to the victims by helping rebuild their destroyed buildings and restoring their means of livelihood.
