Alleged suicide: Abia community in shock over young man’s death

Eze Godfrey Onwuka , the traditional ruler of Umutowe autonomous community of Olokoro has expressed shock and sadness over the alleged suicide by a 37-year-old man, Chukwuka Nwosu, in the community.

He described the incident as ungodly and unfortunate and assured that the community was working closely with the Police to investigate the cause of the death.

Earlier account had it that Nwosu, a resident of Itaja Obuohia, left his family house around 1 am and drove along the Olokoro/Amaba Oboro road where he allegedly parked his Toyota Corolla vehicle by the roadside and hung himself on a building at one of the higher institutions within the axis.

According to the traditional ruler, the police and the Department of State Services, DSS, in Umuahia South were alerted and they rushed to the scene.

The statement from Eze Onwuka’s palace said that the Police have deposited Nwosu’s body at the mortuary, and investigation is ongoing.

The traditional ruler while condoling with the family of the deceased, urged the community to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands but to allow the ongoing investigations.

He reiterated the community’s commitment to supporting the state government’s efforts to make Abia one of the safest states in the federation.

The incident sent shockwaves through the community, as residents are calling for thorough investigation into the strange death.
