The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the Minister of Works, David Umahi over his comment that there is no opposition in the state.
Speaking via a statement issued by the Party Chairman, Onyemaechi Nwele, the PDP maintained that it remains a formidable opposition force in the state.
Nwele insisted that it was deceitful and misleading to claim that there is no formidable opposition in the state.
He said, “I feel compelled to address recent pronouncements by Sen. Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the erstwhile governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister for Works.
“Sen. Umahi claimed that there is no political opposition in the state, portraying the situation as propitious for the incumbent governor, Francis Nwifuru, attributing the absence of opposition to the defection of erstwhile adversaries to the ruling party, APC.
“Such assertions are not only misleading but are crafted with the intent to deceive the public. The PDP remains a formidable opposition force in Ebonyi State, with a lucid vision and strategic blueprint to reinvigorate our presence at the state echelon. Our ambition is to reclaim the governorship and secure a majority in legislative positions through democratic processes.”
Nwele noted that Umahi was only trying to reconcile with the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, and safeguard his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The PDP will not engage in political machinations with Sen. Umahi, who seems eager to reconcile with the governor, perhaps anticipating political headwinds at the federal level under President Tinubu. His motivations are clear, as he seeks to safeguard his political clout should future opportunities for a senatorial seat emerge,” the PDP boss said.
