No Benue worker earns less than N75,000 monthly – Gov Alia

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has declared that no government worker in the state earns below N75,000 as monthly salary.

Governor Alia made this known during his maiden media chat on Thursday, where he gave a scorecard of his administration’s performance and addressed issues ranging from governance to economic reform.

According to the governor, improving the welfare of civil servants has been a top priority, and the decision to raise the minimum wage was aimed at cushioning the effects of inflation and strengthening the state’s workforce.

Alia said, “The minimum any worker earns in Benue today is N75,000 monthly. We didn’t just talk about salary increments we implemented it.”

He explained that the decision to pay above the former national minimum wage was informed by the need to boost morale and restore dignity to civil servants, especially after years of salary arrears and inconsistent payments.

Governor Alia also touched on broader economic efforts, including infrastructure development and sectoral reforms, but emphasized that the wellbeing of workers remained a core pillar of his governance strategy.

“We moved salaries from 70% to 75% in terms of monthly budget allocation, and we’re still delivering on multiple capital projects,” he added.
