Nigerian musician Eedris Abdulkareem has berated President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a “vindictive, insensitive and destructive” government failing on all fronts following the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) ban of his new song, “Tell Your Papa”, which criticises the Tinubu-led government.
Mr Abdulkareem, in a Facebook post on Thursday, shared the NBC statement banning his song and excoriated Mr Tinubu as “one of the most insensitive, vindictive and destructive” leaders to govern Nigeria.
“It’s obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism is always deemed as a big crime by the government,” Mr Abdulkareem said.
“This present government led by President Bola Tinubu is now going on record as one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent administrations ever to preside over the affairs of Nigeria.”
Lamenting the unprecedented cost-of-living crisis and economic downturn under Mr Tinubu’s watch, Mr Abdulkareem said, “Just under 2 years of his presidency, and the results are just frighteningly abysmal from all fronts.”
He added, “And this is a fact, known by all Nigerians, irrespective of religion, tribe and political affiliations, except for the few happy slaves grovelling for crumps from their paymaster’s table!”
Mr Abdulkareem doubled down on his criticisms of the government, echoing themes from his banned song. He noted, “I have travelled this road before as this is reminiscent of the ban of my song *Jaga Jaga* by the Obasanjo administration 21 years ago!”
This development follows NBC’s decision to ban “Tell Your Papa” from being aired on television and radio, citing concerns over its lyrical content.
In a notice circulated to all broadcast stations on April 9, NBC stated that the song, which has gained traction on social media, violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and should be classified as “Not To Be Broadcast” (NTBB).
