Sultan Of Sokoto Confirms Sighting Of Moon, Announces End Of Ramadan Fasting

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad, has announced that the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan fasting has been sighted.

News360 Info reports that the Sultan made this known in a broadcast on Saturday.

The Sultan said they received reports of sighting from Borno, Zazzau, Dutse, Maru, among other places within the country.

The Sultan, who is president of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSIA), said, “Today marks the end of the Ramadan fasting and Sunday, March 30, is the Eid-el-Fitri celebration”.

He congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to sustain the virtues of patience, piety, and charity beyond the holy month.

The Sultan also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the country, while advising worshippers to observe the Eid prayers peacefully and in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has said the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has no plan to move for Islamising Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the Deputy National Legal Adviser of the NSCIA, Imam Haroun Muhammad Eze, in a statement, on Tuesday, said a social media piece attributing Islamizing Nigeria to the Sultan was mischievous.

It stated the Sultan has not been in Nigeria for the past two weeks, addiing that the statement was baseless and unfounded.
