US: I’ll be shocked if Trump wanted nuclear weapons further east into Europe – Vance

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, on Thursday said he would be shocked if President Donald Trump wanted nuclear weapons extending further east into Europe.

Vance stated this during an interview on Fox News while responding to a question about Poland’s president calling on the US to transfer nuclear weapons to its territory as a deterrent against future Russian aggression.

I haven’t talked to the President about that particular issue, but I would be shocked if he was supportive of nuclear weapons extending further east into Europe,” he said.

Poland’s President Andrzej Duda also said he had discussed the proposal recently with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.

The European country has previously said it would be ready to host US weapons under a nuclear arms sharing programme.

Polish policymakers have also recently expressed interest in an idea floated by French President Emmanuel Macron that Paris’s nuclear umbrella could be extended to its European allies.
