Another two-storey building collapses in Lagos

Panic gripped Oriwu Estate as a two-storey building under construction collapsed, trapping several victims beneath the rubble on Wednesday.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) swiftly swung into action, launching a desperate search and rescue operation to save lives.

As of the latest update, five adults have been rescued from the debris of the collapsed building, with four receiving urgent pre-hospital medical care.

The collapsed building scene remains tense as rescue teams battle against time, sifting through the wreckage in search of possible survivors.

Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that operations at the scene of the collapsed building were still ongoing, promising further updates as the situation unfolds.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown, but authorities are expected to investigate possible structural defects or construction violations.

Residents and onlookers watch in horror, hoping for more survivors to be pulled from the ruins.

On 30 January, 2025, two persons were confirmed dead, while five were injure after a two-storey building collapsed in the Ikota area of Ajah, Lagos State.The incident occurred overnight at Mega Mall Estate, Mobile Road, Inikpa Villa, and Ikota.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the collapse, with the Lagos Office Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, stating that the cause remained unknown.
