Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has emphasised the need for collaboration between state and federal governments to strengthen the nation’s industries.
Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, while receiving the Hon. Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Enoh, on a courtesy visit at the Deputy Governor’s Official Residence, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, the Governor noted that such a partnership would drive economic growth and prosperity, given the crucial role industries play in shaping the nation’s economy.
Sanwo-Olu stated that by working together, governments can create a conducive environment for industrial development, ultimately benefiting the nation as a whole.
He stressed that this call to action highlights the importance of cooperation and strategic planning in achieving economic prosperity.
According to the Governor, “As a government, we must continue to work together to create an enabling environment for the industry and stop the recent trend of industries relocating to other climes due to lack of government intervention because the authorities are not aware of the industry challenges.”
Speaking further, he reiterated that the nation’s industries are vital to economic growth, emphasising that no country can develop without strengthening and fostering a supportive environment for its industries.
Sanwo-Olu added that the government must adopt a new approach to engaging with the business sector, citing Unilever’s departure as an example of how companies feel the government does not positively influence the industry.
He noted that his administration is proactively addressing the challenges facing business owners in the state through the “BOS Meet Business Initiative,” an initiative designed to identify and resolve industry issues. He acknowledged that some challenges require collaboration with federal government agencies to be effectively addressed.
The Governor also expressed appreciation to Mr. President for establishing a ministry that will directly engage with industries to resolve their challenges and create a more enabling business environment.
Earlier, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Sen. John Owan Enoh, disclosed that his team was in Lagos for an Industrial Tour to gain firsthand insights into the constraints and challenges faced by industries in the country.
Sen. Enoh noted that the tour would enable the ministry to determine how the government can provide support and foster industry growth.
“This proactive approach will enable the government to create a more favourable business environment, driving economic prosperity and benefiting the nation as a whole,” he said.
He further commended the Lagos State government for its efforts in creating an enabling business environment, adding that Mr. President remains committed to supporting industries for the overall betterment of the nation.
