Nnamdi Kanu drags Bashir Ahmad to court, demands N1bn damages

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has dragged a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, before an Enugu State High Court over his recent social media comment.

Kanu described Ahmad’s comment as libelous and damaging.

Recall that Ahmad had said anybody advocating for Kanu’s release is an enemy of Nigeria.

Ahmad had posted on X: “Anybody advocating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, a terrorist and the leader of the proscribed terrorist organization IPOB, should be considered a sworn enemy of this country.

Frowning at the Ahmad’s remark, Kanu has demanded N100 billion as damages from the former presidential aide.

In a suit filed by his Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor on Tuesday, Kanu demanded an apology within the next 42 days.

The originating summons sighted by DAILY POST reads: “You are hereby commanded within Forty-two (42) Days after
the service of this writ on you inclusive of the day of such services you do cause an appearance to be entered for you in an action at the suit of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

AND TAKE NOTICE that in default of your so doing the Plaintiff may proceed in your absence, and judgment may be given.

Reliefs sought by Kanu include: “A DECLARATION of this Honorable Court that the Defendant’s published statements or utterances to the effect that Claimant is a terrorist, as published in the said X App (formerly Twitter), Talkofnaija.com and phoenix-browser.com, are libelous and defamatory.

AN ORDER of this Honourable Court directing the Defendant to retract the said X App (formerly Twitter), Talkofnaija.com and phoenix-browser.com publication through another publications through the same media, particularly the Defendant’s X handle.

AN ORDER of this Honorable Court directing the Defendant to write and deliver to the Claimant, an unreserved letter of apology. The letter of apology shall be prominently and boldly published full-page in three (3) national dailies, namely: the SUN, Daily Trust and Guardian.

AN ORDER of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from further and forever uttering the said defamatory and libelous words about or concerning the Claimant.

AN ORDER of this Honorable Court directing the Defendant to pay to the Claimant the sum of N100,000,000,000.00 (One Hundred Billion Naira only) being general and exemplary damages.

AN ORDER of this Honorable Court directing the Defendant to pay the cost of this Suit.

AND SUCH FURTHER ORDER(S) as this Honourable Court may deem fit and expedient to make in the circumstance.
