Two individuals lost their lives due to an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Maiduguri, Borno State capital, on Wednesday.
News360 Info understands that the tragic incident happened at a housing estate under construction in Dalwa, which consists of two hundred units.
Reports indicate that the explosion occurred around 1 PM on Wednesday, coinciding with the commissioning of housing estates in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, by Governor Babagana Zulum and his Yobe counterpart, Mai Mala Buni.
A source informed Channels Television that a similar incident took place on Tuesday, although details regarding that explosion remain unavailable.
Dalwa, located 175 kilometres from Maiduguri, is among the numerous communities that have been devastated and displaced by Boko Haram terrorists.
Governor Zulum initiated the reconstruction of the Dalwa community, which included the construction of two hundred houses.
Recently, News360 Info reported that not less than two explosive devices went off at separate locations in the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, marking the third incident of explosive attacks in the area within a week.
According to reports, the explosions co-occurred on the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads last Friday.
A resident, Nuhu Babangida who spoke with Daily Trust, recounted how passengers in a Canter truck narrowly escaped death when the vehicle, loaded with grains and heading to the Dansadau weekly market, triggered one of the devices.
Babangida said, “The explosions on Malamawa and Malele roads went off at the same time, but fortunately, there were no casualties.”
The region has witnessed a string of explosive attacks recently. On Wednesday morning, 12 people were feared dead after a bomb detonated on a bridge at Yar Tasha village.
Witnesses reported that the device exploded around 8 a.m. when a commercial driver conveying passengers to Dansadau town unknowingly ran over it.
Similarly, last Sunday, an 18-seater bus triggered another explosive device suspected to have been planted by bandits, killing the driver, who was the sole occupant.
The repeated incidents have raised concerns about the growing insecurity in Zamfara State, with locals fearing that the planting of explosives along major roads is a deliberate strategy by bandits to disrupt movement and spread fear.
