Biafra: Self acclaimed leader of Biafra, Simon Ekpa issues 72-hour ultimatum over Nnamdi Kanu, others

The Simon Ekpa-led Biafra government has issued a fresh ultimatum to the Nigerian government, demanding the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other South-Easterners being held in custody across the country.

It is no longer news that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has remained behind bars since he was repatriated from Kenya, a situation that has worsened tension in the South-East.

Just earlier in the week, the entire South-East was under a total lockdown for two days owing to a sit-at-home order declared via viral video, which was disclaimed by both Ekpa and the IPOB leadership.

However, speaking in a statement through his X handle on Thursday, Ekpa called for the immediate release of all the people from the zone who are being held in various facilities.

He also asked judges of South-East origin serving in other parts of the country to return home.

According to him, the ultimatum, which is expected to last till October 27, 2024, was a decision after a meeting held on Thursday.

He claimed that the Nigerian judicial system had contributed to the insecurity in the region by installing anti-people governors.

The Biafra agitator further threatened lockdown on all federal courts in the South-East from October 29, 2024, if his demands were not met.

“The Biafra Government, in an emergency cabinet meeting today, 24.10.2024, voted and approved a resolution to demand the Nigerian government to return every Biafran being detained outside Biafraland within 72 hours. The 72 hours will expire on Sunday, 27.10.2024.”

He threatened that if the demands were not met, his group would lock down federal institutions in the zone, including courts.
