VeryDarkMan lands himself in fresh legal battle as Mr. Jollof’s wife sues him for N500m

The wife of popular Nigerian comedian Mr. Jollof, Esinjemiyotan Atsepoyi, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, demanding N500 million in damages.

The lawsuit comes after a series of allegations made by the Abuja-based activist, who claimed that Esinjemiyotan used inappropriate means to help her husband, Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, secure his position as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

VeryDarkMan also accused her of committing adultery with a “Yahoo boy” and “several politicians.”

In response, Mrs. Atsepoyi gave VeryDarkMan a 30-day ultimatum to appear in court and defend his claims, sharing the four-page writ of summons detailing the allegations on social media.

In her claim, she is also seeking N500 million in compensation for the damage to her reputation and business. She is also requesting the court to order VeryDarkMan to publicly apologize in at least two national newspapers and on all his social media platforms.

It partly reads: “A declaration that the Defendant (VeryDarkMan) did defame the Claimant in his online publication of 15th, 16th, and in the early hours of 19th September 2024.

“An order of this Honourable Court directing the Defendant to pay the sum of N500,000,000.00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) as general damages. An order directing the Defendant to publish an apology to the Claimant in two national dailies and all his social media handles. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from further making any defamatory publication against the Claimant.”
