Telegram ready to quit non-compatible markets — CEO Durov

The Chief Executive Officer of Telegram, Pavel Durov, said that the platform is ready to exit any markets not compatible with its principles.

Durov disclosed this in a recent statement detailing his ordeals in France following his arrest at Le Bourget Airport in Paris on August 24, 2024.

He said: “Using laws from the pre-smartphone era to charge a CEO with crimes committed by third parties on the platform he manages is a misguided approach.

We are prepared to leave markets that aren’t compatible with our principles because we are not doing this for money. We are driven by the intention to bring good and defend the basic rights of people, particularly in places where these rights are violated.”

According to him, Telegram is banned in Russia and Iran on the right balance between privacy and security.

He also noted that no innovators will build new tools if they know they will be personally held responsible for the potential abuse of those tools.

“Building technology is hard enough as it is. No innovator will ever build new tools if they know they can be personally held responsible for potential abuse of those tools,” he stated.

Durov said Telegram is already doing enough to weed out criminals from its platform.

News360 Info recalls that the Russian-born founder of Telegram was detained by the French government over allegations that the platform facilitated criminal activities.
