Following a $220 million fine for violating data privacy levied by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), WhatsApp is thinking about halting its services in Nigeria.
According to people close to Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, they may be considering pulling some services out of Nigeria because of growing regulatory pressure.
The FCCPC has ordered WhatsApp to cease exchanging user data with other Facebook organizations and third parties without express user agreement, in addition to the heavy punishment.
