Court Restricts Protesters In Abuja To National Stadium

Participants in the planned hunger demonstration against the federal government on August 1st are limited to the MKO Abiola Stadium, also referred to as the National Stadium, by a Federal Capital Territory High Court.

The order was made on Wednesday in Abuja by Justice Sylvanus Oriji in response to an ex-parte appeal that the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, Nyesom Wike, had placed before him.

The FCT Minister requested an interim injunction prohibiting the five leaders of the protesting groups from congregating or parading themselves along any roads, streets, offices, and public premises within the FCT between August 1 and August 10, or on any other day thereafter, while the motion on notice is heard and decided. Ogwu James Onoja argued the ex-parte application.
