Hunger Protest: Violence Erupts In Calabar As Hoodlums Attack Journalists, Steal Palliatives

A Nigerian Tribune reporter named Joseph Abasi-Abasi was gravely injured by thugs in Calabar, Cross River State, during a wave of violence that preceded planned nationwide rallies on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) owned an eighteen-seater bus that was carrying food from the State Emergency Management Agency storage to the Ernest Etim Press Centre in Calabar was also attacked, according to a source.

It was learned that the thugs attacked Saviour Ekpenyong, an auxiliary staff member, and NUJ bus driver Joseph Akpaenin at around ten in the morning. The NUJ Cross River State Council was intended to receive the food items on the bus.
