In anticipation of the August national hunger protests, Nigeria Police has informed public officers that the private security guards assigned to them will be removed.
According to Nigeria Police, the urgency of the countrywide demonstration made the withdrawal imperative. The police noted that the assigned people would be required to supplement the number of officers needed for the countrywide demonstration.
Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, released the memo from the commanding officer of the No. 2 Squadron, Police Mobile Force, Nigeria Police, Keffi Street, Lagos.
