Abuja Not Available For Hardship Protest — Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that Abuja will not be accessible for the August 1 countrywide protests against economic hardship.

In Abuja on Thursday, after meeting with the leaders of the region’s security agencies, Wike revealed this to reporters.

The Minister claims that the FCTA has designated August 1 as the day on which all local councils will give certificates of recognition to their traditional rulers.

“We are all aware of the threat regarding what some may refer to as ‘End Bad Governance Protest,'” he stated. We think that even if we have the freedom to protest and hold demonstrations, these actions need to adhere to the law.
