Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta Platforms Inc., revealed on Wednesday that it has deleted 63,000 accounts linked to Nigerian fraudsters who were perpetrating financial extortion schemes against American users.
Meta revealed in its Q1 2024 Adversarial Threat Report that part of the takedown was a smaller organized network consisting of around 2,500 accounts connected to a group of about 20 people.
These accounts, which used false profiles to hide their identities, mostly targeted adult males in the United States, according to Meta.
