High Court Adjourns Emefiele’s Case Till Next Year

The trial of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, over an alleged procurement fraud at the Federal Capital Territory High Court has been adjourned.

It has been reported that the court adjourned Emefiele’s trial to January 18, 2024, for continuation of trial.

Emefiele is standing trial on a six-count amended charge on alleged procurement of vehicles to the tune of N1.2bn.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

He was granted bail on November 17, 2023, by Justice Hamza Muazu to the tune of N300 million, and two sureties and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre, pending when he meets his bail conditions.

The judge noted that the sureties must have certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama district in Abuja.

Emefiele has yet to meet his bail conditions as he was brought to court and taken away by armed personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
