The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not consult him before shortlisting his name as a member of its national campaign council in Bayelsa State.
Recall that the APC had purportedly named Wike as a member of the campaign council for the Bayelsa governorship election slated for November
However, the APC National Spokesman, Felix Morka, in a statement on Tuesday, denied the report that the former Rivers State governor was named as a member of its campaign council.
But in an interview on Channels TV’s programme ‘Politics Today’ on Wednesday night, Wike said he was not consulted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC before his name was shortlisted as a member of the Bayelsa campaign council.
The FCT minister also said he has never discussed the issue of his defection to the ruling APC with the national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
He said, “ If I want to go to APC, I will tell my people. But I am still a member of PDP and I was not consulted before my name was listed in the APC campaign council. You don’t even need to consult me because I am still a member of PDP.
The APC Chairman has refuted the report. Well, that means I’m important to them. I have not discussed anything with Ganduje about my coming to APC. But I want to support Asiwaju to finish well.”
