2023 Elections: Pregnant Woman Slumps, Dies On Queue At Polling Unit

Voters and electoral officials experienced grief in Zamfara State after a pregnant woman, Shamsiya Ibrahim, reportedly slumped and died on Saturday during the presidential and national assembly elections.

It was learnt that the patriotic citizen, heavily pregnant, slumped and died while waiting on the queue to vote for her preferred candidate at her polling unit in the Tsafe Area of Zamfara.

Reports said she was immediately rushed to Tsafe General Hospital after she collapsed on the queue but was confirmed dead by a resident doctor upon arrival.

Channels Television reports that Shamsiya travelled from the Kotorkoshi area of Bungudu Local Government to Tsafe town, a distance of about 50 kilometres, to exercise her civic responsibility.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security authorities are yet to make an official statement regarding the tragic development as of reporting time.

Meanwhile, a political thug known as Daniel Mgba reportedly beheaded a man identified as Samuel Arunsi Eze on Saturday, February 25, in the Ndi Agwu community of Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.

It was gathered that two people also lost their lives in the violent attack during the ongoing general election.

Confirming the gruesome incident, eyewitnesses who spoke to Tribune disclosed that there is a need for peaceful conduct during the electoral process as the second person involved in the incident was also reportedly killed.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
