2023: APC Pushing For Postponement Of Election By Four Weeks

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly seeking the postponement of the general election amidst the economic chaos in the country.

This comes barely 24 hours after APC suspended its campaign activities in Ogun and Lagos State respectively.

According to Daily Independent, there is a plot by the ruling party to have the election timetable adjusted by four weeks and it is being spearheaded by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The APC source who spoke to the aforementioned publication said the plan to extend the election is due to the current economic chaos and protest being experienced by many Nigerians over the new Naira scarcity and fuel.

The source said: “The APC is seeking a postponement of the election by four weeks and the move is led by Governor Nasir El-Rufai. I think it has to do with the current chaos being experienced as a result of the naira and fuel scarcity”.

El-Rufai, Others Dragged Buhari Govt To Court
Meanwhile, Governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), and Bello Matawalle (Matawalle) took the federal government to court over the policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In an ex parte motion filed through their lawyer, Abdul Hakeem Mustapha, the governors prayed to the court to stop further implementation of the naira redesign policy over the hardship imposed on their people who find it difficult to swap their old naira notes for new ones, particularly those living in the rural areas.

They also prayed the court to grant them an interim injunction stopping the Federal Government either by itself or acting through the Central Bank of Nigeria, Money Deposit Banks, or their agents from implementing the February 10 deadline of swapping the old 200, 500, and 1000 currency notes for new ones.
