A few days ago, news went round that Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, with its RxPass solution is providing medication coverage for a monthly subscription of $5 (about N3,500) to address 80 medical conditions. This news is no surprise to award-winning Advantage Health Africa, who had last year launched the same service here in Nigeria, called myAdvantage. It is a simple N2k coverage (that is each member of the myAdvantage trybe pays a monthly subscription of N2,000) and gets unlimited teleconsultation and free prescribed medications for 50+ common medical conditions including fever, malaria, pregnancy, common cold, peptic ulcer, arthritic pain, typhoid, headache etc.
Once you are covered, you simply walk into any pharmacy that the Fulfilment Centre of myAdvantage directs you to, pick your medication(s) and that’s all. If you need, a free consultation is arranged for you with licensed medical doctors, and all those who have accessed care on myAdvantage (www.myadvantage.africa) seem to have only great reviews about it. Mrs Rita in Lagos had this to say: “Using myAdvantage is so easy, simple and highly professional. This community is giving far more value than the subscription fee. I am committed to promoting this community to more people!”. While Mr Richie enjoys the fact that “he can get his medications for free with no hassles”. And for some, its the other myAdvantage trybe benefits, missing in all other health insurance programs that attracted them. Now, myAdvantage is working with key partners to expand its reach to every Nigerian in any city, town or village.
The Programme Director, myAdvantage, Mobolaji Adesanya shared that this has been the purpose of the company – to ensure access, affordability and quality of medicines to Africans, and in achieving this, he said the team has come up with different solutions over the years, where AHA adopted networks, aggregation, technology and logistics solutions to get your genuine medicines to your doorstep. He said “we cannot rest on our oars until we know that place or price does not influence access to what is enjoyed by others in other climes. Africans deserve good healthcare and we are all for it”.
Advantage Health Africa (www.advantagehealthafrica.com) has a pharma sales and marketing division, an online pharmacy and a franchise network of pharmacies.
