Capitol Insurrection: US Lawmakers Recommends Trump Be Banned From Holding Public Office For Life

Fresh information has emerged that a recommendation has come from the United States House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, that the former US president, Donald Trump be banned from holding any public office for life.

It has been reported the recommendation among others was contained in the committee’s over 800- page report issued on Thursday, after 18 months of working on the issue.

It was gathered from The Washington Post along with the bulk report was also a list of 11 other recommendations to prevent the future reoccurrence of such incidence.

The committee recommended banning Trump from holding any public office for life because of the alleged role he played in inciting the insurrection.

According to BBC, in its final report, the committee accused Trump of a “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn his election defeat three months earlier before the incident.

The committee is said to have worked in the last one and half years carefully examing the footnote documents intended to confirm its findings that Trump’s conduct following the 2020 presidential election was responsible for the unprecedented assault on Congress.

In that period, the committee was reported to have helded 10 public hearings and interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses, including family members, officials and staff who worked under the Trump-led administration.

It also interacted with Capitol police officers, rioters, and militia members among others.

The Democratic chairman of the select committee, Bennie Thompson was reported to have written in a foreword to the eight-chapter report that it was once “unimaginable” the president of the United States would incite a mob to march on the Capitol.
