Morocco ended their last game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a loss, suffering defeat at the hands of Croatia who went on to claim the bronze trophy.
Morocco and Croatia clashed on Saturday in the 3rd place play-off of the tournament at the Khalifa International Stadium with the Africans hoping to finish their fairy tale run at the tournament with a trophy.
They however fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of their European counterparts.
In the much-anticipated game, Croatia took the lead through Josko Gvardiol with a superb header in the seventh minute but Achraf Dari equalized two minutes later for Morocco.
It was however not to be for hard-fighting Morocco as Mislav Orsic scored the winner for Croatia with a brilliant bending strike.
Towards the end of the game, Morocco had a late penalty appeal turned down and En-Nesyri headed just over but the Atlas Lions could not find a way back into the game to cap their impressive run in the tournament with a trophy.
The North Africans however hold the record as the first African team to qualify and play in the semi-final stage of a World Cup game.
