The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has insisted that the current National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu must resign.
Speaking about the crisis rocking the PDP, Wike maintained that the best thing is to throw out the ‘Jonah’ (as referenced in a Bible story) that has been recognized in the party so the ship of the party will not sink or capsize ahead of the 2023 elections.
He likened Ayu to Jonah in the Bible story who was causing problems on a ship he boarded alongside other people and had to be thrown out into the water for the ship to be stabilized.
The Governor maintained that if this is done, both Ayu and the party will survive.
News360 info recalls the crisis rocking the leading opposition party started following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate and his choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.
This is as following the development, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and his allies have vowed not to take part in the presidential campaigns of the party except Ayu resigns and is replaced with a southerner.
Making fresh comments about the situation in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, the Rivers State Governor insisted that the only solution is for Ayu to resign.
He submitted that what he and his allies are demanding is a simple case of inclusivity, so every region is given a sense of belonging.
Wike said: “So, I have told Ikpeazu to continue to be quiet and be a professor of proverbs. When we went to London, he told the person who called us to the meeting in London, you see this thing happening to PDP now is like that ship that wanted to capsize carrying Jonah.
So, as the ship was going down, they went to Jonah, who said it’s me, it’s not the ship, and they took Jonah out of the ship. Jonah did not die.
The ship stabilized. So, why not throw this Jonah out so that the ship can stabilize.”
