The rift between the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike might be resolved soon.
This is due to the recent meeting between Atiku and Governor Wike on Thursday at the Rivers State governor’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
There are indications that the camp of Governor Wike may review their demands in supporting Atiku in the 2023 general elections.
According to reports which emerged from the meeting, there were claims that Atiku promised to support Wike’s presidential ambition in 2027.
However, the camp of the former vice president and Governor Wike’s camp have debunked the reports which emerged after the Thursday meeting
A reliable confidante of Governor Wike who spoke with Leadership said the camp of the Rivers State Governor will study the offers made by Atiku to know the next line of action.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Ogbonna Nwuke, on Saturday, while speaking on the 2027 presidency promise to Wike said it was mere speculation, adding that the issues presented by Atiku would be considered.
Nwuke who said the call for Wike to support Atiku did not arise during the meeting said, “What is known is that whatever proposals the presidential candidate put before Governor Wike will be looked into by members of his team before giving him feedback.”
He said the issue of the 2027 presidency is speculative, adding that if Atiku is talking about a power shift to the South, the issue is speculation.
Nwuke said if the PDP applies its conflict resolution mechanism, issues in the party can be resolved.
He added, “It will make a difference if Atiku and his associates will remove every impediment that made conflict resolution in the PDP impossible.”
The confidant of Governor Wike noted that the camp of the Rivers State Governor can not think good of Atiku if he does not do anything about the resignation of Ayu.
He said Ayu’s resignation is the basic demand, which he noted is based on justice and equity.
Nwuke said, “The two leaders have met and talked, which signals hope to PDP members and admirers of the PDP nationwide, that they will move beyond mere talks and deal with real issues bedevilling the party at this time.”
