Aregbesola Quotes Bible Verse As Oyetola Loses Osun Guber Election

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Sunday quoted a bible verse following the conclusion of the Osun Governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Senator Ademola Adeleke, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election.

The INEC returning officer for the Osun governorship poll, Prof Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, made the declaration on Sunday morning.

Adeleke defeated the incumbent governor of the state and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola and thirteen other candidates to win the exercise.

Adeleke won 17 local government areas in the state, while the candidate of the APC, Oyetola won the remaining 13 local government areas in the state.

The incumbent governor of the state who was defeated in the election gathered 375,027 votes, while Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to win the election.

Aregbesola who has been at loggerheads with Oyetola quoted a bible verse some minutes after INEC declared Adeleke as the winner of the June 16 governorship poll.

In a post on Facebook Sunday, Aregbesola wrote: “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men – (Daniel 4:17).”

Aregbesola has been in a battle with Oyetola and the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the control of Osun state.

The minister even sponsored Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a former government secretary to compete against Oyetola in the party’s direct primary.

After Oyetola’s victory, Adeoti dragged Oyetola to court, seeking an order to disqualify him for not resigning early enough from the party’s national caretaker committee.

The case was, however, thrown out by the court sitting on Thursday.

Then Aregbesola left the country for the United States, making himself unavailable for the election.
