Nigeria needs 100,000 megawatts to end perennial blackout – Barth Nnaji

Ex-power minister Barth Nnaji says Nigeria needs over 100,000 megawatts of power to address the persistent power crisis in Nigeria.

Mr Nnaji said this while addressing journalists on Friday in Enugu.

He attributed the problem in the sector to the supply value chain, adding that the country has challenges in generation, transmission and distribution of power.

“Nigeria is a country of more than 200 million people and needs more than 100,000 megawatts of power and infrastructures,” he said. “I support unbundling of the power sector where states will be allowed to own and manage their own power supply.”
