2023: Afenifere Speaks On The Presidential Candidate It Will Support

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere has revealed that it is not thinking about the 2023 presidential elections in Nigeria as what the group is demanding is a constitutional review and restructuring of the country.

To this end, the Afenifere acting leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo has declared that the group has no preferred presidential candidate for 2023 yet neither is it supporting any aspirant for the nation’s political number one seat.

He added that until a new constitution is in place that promotes true federalism, Afenifere is not concerned about the 2023 presidential election or aspirants already declaring their intention.

Speaking further, Adebanjo was flanked by Senator Femi Okunrounmu, Chief Supo Sonibare, Pastor Adebayo Adenekan, Chief Tunde Onakoya, and Lanre Anjolaiya called on former President Olusegun Obasanjo to join hands with them in prevailing on President Muhammadu Buhari to dump the unitary constitution and adopt the federal constitution.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has received supports to join the 2023 presidential race.

It has been reported that the minister received the backing of a coalition of socio-political groups under the auspices of the Southern Mandate Group to join the race for the nation’s number of political positions ahead of the upcoming general elections.

The group in a statement issued on Wednesday shortly after their meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, noted that Amaechi is versed in administrative experiences and is fit to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The groups, Naija News understands were drawn from the 11 states in the South-South and South-East.

Defending Amaechi’s credential, the group stressed that the 56-year-old politician has demonstrated his disposition to the oneness and unity of Nigeria through his advocacies concerning the indivisibility of Nigeria.
