Former Minister of Finance and former Central Bank Governor, Dr. Chu SP Okongwu is dead. He was aged 87.
Okongwu, an economist, and a one-time, Governor of the Central Bank, was the Minister of National Planning (1985-1986) and then Minister of Finance (1986-1990) during the Babangida administration.
He was appointed chairman of, African Development Bank in June 198. He was also Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Petroleum.
He was born on September 23, 1934, in Nnewi, Anambra State, the first of eight children.
He studied Economic theory at Boston University. He completed the degree in 1961. He also attended Harvard University from 1961 to 1965.
Okongwu was the Minister of National Planning between 1985-1986 and the Minister of Finance between 1986-1990 during the Babangida administration, who attended Harvard University from 1961 to 1965.
