More woes for Nigeria at Tokyo Olympics, as Oduduru is disqualified

Divine Oduduru, Nigeria’s 100m medal hopeful, has been disqualified for the 100m heat for a false start at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan on Saturday.

Oduduru had the second false start and had to be disqualified from the race after America’s Fred Kerley broke the rule for the first false start in the 100m race.

The 24-year-old has been Nigeria’s brightest hope to get to the medal zone at the Olympics because of his current form.

He ran a personal best of 9.86 seconds in 2019 and 19.73 seconds in 2019 and then had 6.52 seconds in the 60m dash.

It was reported that another Nigerian medal hopeful, Blessing Okagbare, was disqualified from the Olympics for suspected doping earlier on Saturday.

Okagbare could not run in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m race.

This followed confirmation the 32-year-old sprint queen had failed a drugs test earlier in July and has been provisionally suspended.
