16-year-old girl kidnap self, demands N500,000 over mother’s insistence she studies Medicine

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old girl for faking her own kidnap.

The teenager was arrested alongside three accomplices at their hotel hideouts.

According to the State Police spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, the teenager admitted that she conspired with her accomplices to actualise her dream of becoming an actor as against studying medicine, which was her mother’s choice.

Abutu explained that the girl conspired with the other suspects and raised money from her family members to enable her relocate from Ekiti State to pursue her dream, NAN reports.

“She said she did it since her mother had insisted that she goes through medical field as against her dream of becoming an actress,’’

Abutu stated that one Bolaji Femi of Bawa Estate, Ado-Ekiti, reported to the police on Tuesday that her sister who left home for school at Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, on Monday did not return home.’

The suspect narrated that when her family called her phone, an unknown person picked and informed them that she was in the custody of kidnappers.

The “unknown person,’’ who is also a friend to the girl’s boyfriend, had informed her parents that she would not be released until a ransom of N500,000 was paid to a particular bank account.

Abutu added that the police tracked the owner of the bank account, arrested him and he led operatives to a hotel in Ado-Ekiti, where the supposed victim, her boyfriend and one other accomplice were apprehended.
