One person has been confirmed dead in the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria as the number of cases rose to 35.
This was made known by the lead agency in the fight against the virus in the country, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
The first fatality was said to be a 67-year-old man who returned from the United Kingdom after undergoing medical treatment.
According to the NCDC: “The 1st death from #COVID19 in Nigeria has been recorded.
“The case was a 67 year old male who returned following a medical procedure in UK.
“He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma & diabetes, and was undergoing chemotherapy.
“Our thoughts are with his family.”
According to the NCDC, which put the cases at 30 as at Sunday, the five new cases were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Edo and Lagos States.
While Edo State has one, Lagos State and the FCT recorded two new cases each.
