The Presidency has defended the use of a Presidential jet by Hanan Buhari, one of the daughters of the president.
Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu said that members of the First Family and other persons authorised by the president can make use of the jets.
He was reacting to the furore generated when Hanan flew aboard a Presidential jet to Bauchi State on a private visit on Thursday.
The president’s daughter reportedly attended a durbar at the behest of Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu.
A First Class graduate of Photography from a UK university, Hanan’s visit was reportedly to photographs of the traditional durbar, Bauchi architecture and other cultural sites in the state.
Photos of her embarking on the trip on the presidential jet however generated furious reactions from some Nigerians.
“It’s true that a member of the First Family was flown to Bauchi yesterday on a mission duly authorised. It wasn’t an impromptu or improper trip because it followed normal procedure. The Presidency informed the National Security Adviser of the mission who in turn informed the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet.
“The normal practice in existence for a long time is that the Presidential Air fleet is available to the President and the first family and four others. These four are the Vice President, the Senate President, the Speaker and any other person(s) authorised by the President,” The Punch quoted Shehu as saying.
