A Nigerian sports betting firm, Naija Bet, has said its strong conviction that President Muhammadu Buhari, will return to Nigeria soon encouraged the company to enlist the President’s coming on its betting platform. Buhari has been in London since May 7 on a medical follow-up.
Naija Bet shocked Nigerians when it created on its website a coupon stating that: ‘Buhari to Return – Nigeria – Buhari to return’ and asking How Soon?’ with the following options: (A) First Week in August (B) Second Week in August (C) Third Week in August (D) Forth Week in August. The move has drawn a lot of criticism considering the sensitivity of the President’s health but the betting company said it had no bad intention with its action.
“We would just like to put this on record, Nigerians want their president back. We are only trying to voice the yearning of the people via the little platform we have. We want to show the President and the government that the people are anxious for his wellbeing and anticipate his return,” the company tweeted on its official handle on Thursday.
