The Senate has commenced the probe of its President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, over the purchase of a Jeep worth N298 million.
The Senate had last week directed its committee on Ethic and Privileges to probe Saraki on the development.
The issue became public knowledge following what was described as the refusal of Saraki to pay the Customs duties on the vehicle.
Some media reports had insinuated that the decision of the Senate to probe the Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, retired Colonel Hameed Ali, was due to his refusal to cave in on the payment of the duties on the Jeep.
Saraki however said the Jeep belongs to the Senate. He had just arrived to defend himself before the probe committee as at press time on Monday.
