The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris yesterday said 128 policemen were killed by criminals on the line of duty in the last three months.
A statement by police spokesman, DCP Don Awunah said the IGP described as deeply worrisome the rate at which officers and men lose their lives in the course of discharging their statutory duties.
He said: “In the past three months, the Force has lost 128 personnel in various parts of the country due to activities of these undesirable elements in our communities.” The figure means more than one policeman was killed per day during the period.
Awunah noted that the deaths occasioned by unwarranted attacks by religious bigot, bandits, hoodlums and militants must be reversed and the trend halted.
