Ogun ex-lawmaker, Olusola Pelumi is dead

A former Ogun state House of Assembly member, Olusola Adeboye Pelumi is dead.

Olusola, 60, who represented Remo North state constituency in the House between 2003-2011 died at the Lagos state University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba, Lagos last Friday, after a brief illness.

A close aide, Olusoga Awobodu, who confirmed the development on phone on Monday, said the late lawmaker had a 60th birthday bash last August, “before he fell sick some weeks back and was at LUTH till he passed on last Friday.”

Olusola, a shipping magnate before venturing into politics, was elected in 2003 to represent the Remo North state constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected in 2007 and became member of the popular G-15, who stood against the then governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s move to obtain N10b loan in 2010.

He joined the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside former Speaker, Samson Egbetokun among others and became strong member of the incumbent governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun campaign team in the run for the 2011 general elections.

He was surprisingly denied the ticket to return to the House, a development that led to his pitching tent with the Labour Party (LP), but lost in the elections.

Olusoga described his late mentor as “a warrior, who holds strongly to his belief and ideology irrespective of the result he gets. He was also a great philanthropist, which some of us are beginning to see after his death on Friday.”

He will be buried on November 17th, our Correspondent gathered.
