Cleric calls for castration of Rape Culprits

With the increasing number of rape cases in the country, a cleric and human right activist in Northern Nigeria has called for castration of every rapist that is caught in the act.

A Christian Cleric, Pastor Yohanna Buru speaking yesterday at a programme organized by Child Protection Networks in Nigeria, UNICEF said rapists when caught should be castrated.

He said tougher punishments including life imprisonment, death sentence or castration should be applied to all rapists.

The use of Bible and Qur’an laws to deal with rapist should be enforce so as to halt the continuous negative effects on girl-child rape disturbing various communities in the country,” Buru said.

Pastor Buru who is the president, Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, appealed to Child Protection Networks in Nigeria, UNICEF and government at all levels to quickly enforce laws that will use the Bible, the Quran and the constitution to punish rapists.

Traditional Rulers, Human Right Organizations, Women Activists, Association of Nigerian Women Lawyers, Women Journalists and market women must rise to the challenge.”

Such unfortunate and unholy activities contribute immensely in destroying the lives of many innocent Girls in the country. This societal ills call for tougher punishment or life imprisonment to serves as a deterrent to others,” Buru added.

A popular activist in Northern Nigeria, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, said many young girls have been infected with different diseases as a result of rape but added that many parents don’t want their daughters who are victims of rape to be further exposed to legal action.
