Anti-riot policemen from the Federal Capital Terrioty (FCT) police command, on Sunday sealed off the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Michael Okpara Street, Abuja.
The personnel, who came with two lorries and about 10 patrol trucks, blocked a section of Dalaba Street leading to the National Secretariat, forcing motorists to use the remaining lane.
They took over from regular policemen and officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) posted to man the security and prevented people access, including journalists who were earlier invited for a press briefing.
Noone was told on whose order they were deployed in the area. A police sergeant who spoke to reporters said they were deployed on “orders from above.”
It was further learnt that the order to seal off the secretariat came from the Inspector General of Police.
The sergeant said they were drawn from Kubwa, one of the satellite towns of Abuja, to maintain law and order at the secretariat.
He said they were told that the party officials were to hold a meeting at the secretariat.
