A former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Umar, has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on allegations of embezzling N4,846,630,000 belonging to the Nigerian Air Force.
Umar, who was arraigned on a seven count charge of money laundering, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Lawyer to the accused person, Hassan Liman, subsequently moved the application for the bail of his client, which was not opposed by the prosecutor, Sylvanus Tahir.
Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako admitted the accused person to bail in self recognizance. The court ordered that he deposits his international passport with the court and must not travel outside the jurisdiction of the court without permission.
A former Chief of Defence State, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, is also being prosecuted for funds he allegedly embezzled while he was the Chief of Air Staff, a position from where he was appointed as CDS.
