The daughter of an army general in Burundi was killed, along with her father and mother, as they were dropping off at school in the capital, Bujumbura, AFP news agency is quoted an unnamed security source as saying.
General Athanase Kararuza and his wife died when men attacked their vehicle in the Gihosha neighbourhood this morning.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the security source told AFP: “They attacked him with rockets and grenades, his security detail tried to respond but unfortunately General Kararuza and his wife were killed.
“His daughter succumbed to her injuries in hospital although the doctors did everything to save her.”
