Senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Ben Murray-Bruce, on Wednesday declared he would not take part in the sharing of the SUV purchased by the Senate.
He made this statement in a series tweet while reacting to the decision of the Senate to buy 36 Sport Utility Vehicles for its members.
He said, “For the avoidance of doubt, I did not and will not accept any SUV. The only SUV, I, Ben Murray-Bruce will accept is a made in Nigeria car.”
His followers, however, expressed mixed reactions to the post. While some supported him, some attacked him.
A user, Oluseyi Odus (@Richard_Oluseyi) said, “@benmurraybruce, but where were u when they are making request for the 36 SUV or u are no more vibrant in the house anymore?”
Another user, @Shola Olushola said ‘the senator is not being accused of receiving the SUV, but rather being asked why he was quiet when the decision was being made.
“@benmurraybruce you are not being accused of receiving the SUV. The question is why are you quiet on it? #commonsense is speaking against it.”
Another user @akindream, however thanked the senator for standing while others are failing.
He said, “@benmurraybruce thanks for standing when others are failing, you’re our voice now. #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira was never believed.
Responding to @Richard Oluseyi’s tweet, Murray-Bruce said, “Shouldn’t the question be where was YOUR senator? I made my constituents proud by my decision. What did yours do?”
